Receive a text message on your phone or e-mail when an aurora is visible above the AuroraMAX Observatory!
How it Works: When an aurora is forming above the AuroraMAX Observatory in Yellowknife, the AuroraMAX Alert System issues the following alert on Twitter:
AURORAMAX ALERT • An aurora is now visible above Yellowknife, Northwest Territories. Check it out on AuroraMAX Live!
This message will connect you to a live feed of the northern lights above Yellowknife. If you live in the North, this message is notification to go outside and enjoy the show.
If you missed the alert and missed the show, don’t worry. Watch for an alert the next morning that features the latest AuroraMAX image from the previous night. Each image includes a time stamp, allowing you to compare it with the AuroraMAX Replay footage.
National AuroraMAX Alerts: AuroraMAX also provides advanced notice when auroras are in the forecast across Canada, for example:
AURORAMAX ALERT • Observers in northern BC, AB, SK, MB, ON, QC, and NL should be on alert for auroras December 28-29.
